Meet the RC Staff- Becky Yeager

Becky Yeager is the Outreach and Business Coordinator for Research Computing at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has a bachelor’s degree in History from Carleton College in Minnesota and a master’s degree in Media and Public Affairs from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She is married, with two little boys, and has lived in Colorado for almost 8 years. Thomas Hauser, the director of Research Computing, discovered Yeager while she was working as an executive assistant to Larry Levine, the Associate Vice Chancellor for the Office of Information Technology. Wanting to return to her chosen career path of communications, Yeager accepted his offer of a position on the Research Computing team.

Yeager describes herself as “the jack-of-all-trades for RC.” Her oversight of communications and outreach involves managing three different websites, including updates and content; writing press releases and articles; and managing the Research Computing social media channels. Yeager is also involved with office management, calendar creation and budgets. She works with the Rocky Mountain Advanced Computing Consortium (RMACC) and plans the two large annual RMACC events. She says, “My most exciting experience would be growing our annual RMACC HPC Symposium from around 100 people to over 300 attendees and bringing in speakers and attendees from around the country.” Going forward, Yeager hopes to continue working on her marketing and communications skills, become an expert in Drupal website design, and become better-versed in social media and the ways she can use it to grow Research Computing’s base of supporters.

Given the chance to have dinner with anyone, living or dead, Yeager says, “I’m a big 20th century history buff so I think it’s a toss-up between Amelia Earhart, because I imagine she would have amazing stories to share about her travels, and Dorothea Lange who took such beautiful pictures of families during the Depression, again to hear her stories and the stories behind her photographs.”
